Burglary Prevention in Yorkshire

Sadly statistics show that one home is burgled every 37 seconds in the UK. Most burglaries are opportunistic and happen very fast. If a burglar can gain quick entry to your property without too much noise then obviously your property is at greater risk. To help you avoid becoming another one of these statistics you can do your best to frustrate and deter any attempted break-in by making sure that your locks all comply to BS 3621, which most insurance companies demand as the minimum security on external doors. uPVC doors should be fitted with the correct size cylinder which should not protrude by more than 3mm and the external handle should have no visible fixing screws.

Sash Jammers
Sash jammers are simple yet very effective and could protect you home from a break in if fitted correctly! The jammer bar prevents the door or window from being opened once locked in place. The sash jammer should be fixed in to the reinforced steel box section ensuring a solid fix, or if you have the older style non-reinforced upvc, a special jack nut is available which ensures a solid fix within the frame cavity.

Wooden Door Reinforcement

With ordinary wooden front doors it is possible to reinforce the door & frame to reduce the risk of a forced entry. When a mortice lock or chubb type lock is fitted, the door has to be cut out to accept the lock body, this can create a weak spot within the door. This weakness can be easily overridden with lockguards which simply bolt over the lock and through the door, tightening the timber around the lock. To strengthen the frame a "Birmingham kick stop bar" can easily be fitted. This is a long metal bar which runs the full height of the door frame meaning any attack on the door spreads the impact up and down the door frame evenly.
